Summary

  • Private jets are often kept white for marketing reasons, but some owners opt for colorful liveries to express identity and creativity.
  • Examples include a Cessna 510 Citation Mustang painted as Captain America, Jackie Chan's Embraer Legacy 650 adorned with dragons, and Drake's Boeing 767-200ER in his signature baby blue scheme.
  • Lewis Hamilton's Bombardier Challenger 605 stood out with its vibrant metallic cherry-red color, while Max Verstappen's Dassault Falcon 900EX paid tribute to his racing career with Redbull's colors.

Whether it's part of a collaboration with companies like the Pokémon Company, the Star Wars Corporation, or even with famous football teams like Manchester City and Real Madrid, commercial passenger aircraft are often seen in iconic and vibrant liveries that differ from their typical branding.

But in the world of private aviation, it's relatively uncommon to see private jets parading colorful liveries, as most owners tend to be more conservative. Fortunately, some owners crave identity and creativity, so here are five of our favorite liveries on private jets worldwide.

1 Captain America

Previously registered as N264CA, this Cessna 510 Citation Mustang was painted in 'The American Patriot' special livery based on Marvel's Captain America for the Veterans Airlift Command. But you look closely, you can see that Captain America was slightly tweaked to resemble a World War II pilot.

Unfortunately, the aircraft has since been re-registered N26WF upon switching owners. Based on available photos online, it seems the 'The American Patriot' paint scheme was also removed, but it certainly still deserves a spot on this list for the period it existed.

2 Jackie Chan

Although the Hong Kong actor has quite an impressive fleet of private jets, perhaps the most well-known would be Jackie Chan's first Embraer aircraft, delivered in 2012 to kickstart his journey as the company's brand ambassador. The Embraer Legacy 650 was registered N688JC and is instantly recognizable with its snaking dragons.

The dragons are in the popular Chinese colors of red and yellow, and Chan's logo is also painted on the tail. This aircraft was often seen in Beijing and Hong Kong, but as of late, it seems to have had its registered owners switched as photos as recent as 2019 show the aircraft in a different, plainer livery.

3 Air Drake

While the rapper himself does not actually own it, Drake has a Boeing 767-200ER in his vehicle collection, which was acquired in early 2019. The massive airframe technically belongs to Cargojet and was gifted to the Canadian rapper as part of an organic collaboration. Dubbed Air Drake and registered N767CJ, this private jet is painted in the rapper's signature baby blue scheme.

The OVO Owl - the logo of Drake's clothing line - is painted near the front door, and the tail features two prayer hands clasped together, a symbol often associated with the rapper within his music and tattoos. While Cargojet is emblazoned on aircraft's rear bottom, Air Drake is featured more clearly on the two engines.

4 Lewis Hamilton

Acquired in January 2013, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton added a Bombardier Challenger 605 to his vehicle collection. Compared to the others on this list, this aircraft lacks the more prominent symbols or unique designs for its livery but heavily makes up for it in color. More specifically, the aircraft was painted in a vibrant metallic cherry-red color scheme.

Whether it's looked at during the day or night time, the cherry-red is simply eye-catching and unique by itself. The aircraft also bore a customized G-LCDH registration tag on the tailfin to signify the racecar driver's full name, Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton. Unfortunately, this beautifully-painted aircraft left his collection less than a decade later.

5 Max Verstappen

Rounding off this list is a Dassault Falcon 900EX owned by another Formula 1 driver, Max Verstappen. Max acquired this private jet from Richard Branson in 2020 and had it re-registered PH-DTF and dubbed The Flying Dutchman. And in tribute to his racing career, Verstappen re-painted the aircraft a special livery design of matte dark grey with orange graphics and the Verstappen logo featured on the tail.
