Summary

  • Delta Air Lines is expanding its route network with a new nonstop flight between Tulsa and New York LaGuardia Airport, reflecting growing travel demand between the two destinations.
  • The airline will use its fleet of Embraer E175 regional jets for this short two-and-a-half-hour route.
  • With the addition of the Tulsa-LaGuardia route, Delta now offers nonstop flights to three destinations from Tulsa, positioning itself as the second carrier alongside American Airlines in serving this market.

Delta Air Lines will expand its route network by adding a new nonstop destination connecting Tulsa International Airport (TUL), Oklahoma, to New York City's LaGuardia Airport (LGA) beginning May 7, 2024. The news comes as the airline sees continued growing travel demand between two destinations.

Expanding domestic route network

Although the summer of 2023 is coming to a close, Delta is already planning its schedules for the upcoming spring and summer seasons. In 2024, the airline is set to commence daily operations between Tulsa, often referred to as the capital of oil, and New York. The carrier will deploy its fleet of Embraer E175 regional jets for this relatively short route, which takes just two and a half hours.

Delta's subsidiary Delta Connection currently has a total of 129 Embraer E175 jets at an average age of 8.7 years, according to Planespotters.net. The E175s have the capacity to accommodate between 70 and 76 passengers. It is worth mentioning that Delta's Embraer fleet is operated by Republic Airline or SkyWest Airlines.

Delta's introduction of a new route to LaGuardia Airport (LGA) will bring the total count of nonstop destinations served from Tulsa to three. The other two destinations are Atlanta (ATL) and Salt Lake City (SLC). This move positions Delta as the second carrier alongside American Airlines to serve the TUL-LGA market, each offering daily flights.

Delta Connection has recently announced to cease its operations from Boston to Westchester, less than a year after launching this route. The 166-mile route - one of the shortest in Delta's network clocking in at around one hour - will end on August 31. Delta will continue to serve Westchester from Atlanta (ATL) and Detroit (DTW).
