According to current airline service schedules, Ontario International Airport (ONT) has reported an expected 1.8 million passengers to travel through the airport during the summer season this year (from Memorial Day to Labor Day).

With an over 7% increase from last year's passenger numbers and over a 13% increase from the airport's pre-pandemic traffic, Ontario clearly demonstrates a strong COVID-19 recovery and sustained growth, especially considering the recent rising cost of air travel.

With a selection of new routes and various airport upgrades, this summer, the airport is prepared to provide the most robust passenger experience to both leisure and business travelers. As the airport's CEO, Atif Elkadi, said in a statement:

Airports often determine if passengers have positive travel experiences, whether for business or leisure, so we are pulling out the stops to set a positive tone this summer.

Expanded Connectivity for the Summer

As the fastest-growing airport in the United States (according to Global Traveler), Ontario International Airport has progressively connected Southern California to the rest of the nation and beyond. This summer, the airport's carriers will increase service to many destinations.

Low-cost carrier Frontier will expand its footprint at the airport with new direct daily services to Dallas-Fort Worth, Atlanta, and San Francisco.

These additional flights will likely compete with full-service network carriers to lower prices to these high-demand destinations. These new frequencies will continue Frontier's Southern California expansion initiative.

Southwest will also add new connections at the airport, with daily service to Dallas-Love Field, augmented from a once-weekly service last summer.

However, new connections at the airport are not limited to budget carriers, as American and fellow oneworld carrier Alaska Airlines will be adding new frequencies to Dallas-Fort Worth and Seattle, respectively.

These new connections will continue to add more robust connectivity for Ontario's residents and provide increased incentives for business travel to the area.

The airport will see increased service to Mexico and Taiwan on the international side. Ontario, one of the smallest US airports with regular transpacific service, will now have a daily connection to Taipei from China Airlines. Prior to this summer, the carrier operated a once-weekly frequency.

Additionally, Volaris, a Mexican low-cost carrier, will now be serving Guadalajara with A321 aircraft, significantly expanding seat capacity on services to Ontario.

Upgraded airport facilities

In addition to new services, Ontario International Airport passengers will enjoy various improvements within the terminals.

Notably, Ontario remains one of only a few American airports in the era of post-9/11 security to allow airside access for non-passengers. Last fall, the airport began its popular ONT+ Visitor Pass Program, allowing visitors to apply for airside access up to a week in advance.

Additionally, as the airport announced to much passenger delight, a new Chick-fil-A restaurant has opened at Ontario's Terminal 4, adding to the variety of dining options already available.
