Aeromexico Connect has inaugurated the first, and for now only, US route from Mexico City's Felipe Ángeles International: Houston George Bush Intercontinental. Some 31 Mexican airports now have nonstop flights to the US, with 49 airports served.

Given Houston's location, its status as a United hub, and the city's Mexican diaspora, it is unsurprising that Bush has the second-highest number of Mexican flights and destinations of any US airport.

Aeromexico: Felipe Ángeles-Houston

On May 1st, Aeromexico Connect took off from Felipe Ángeles, which opened two years ago, bound for Houston Bush. Operating daily using two-class, 99-seat Embraer E190s, the 741-mile (1,192 km) route is scheduled as follows, with all times local:

  • Felipe Ángeles-Houston Bush: AM2780, 15:10-18:10 (2h block time)
  • Houston Bush-Felipe Ángeles: AM2781, 07:40-09:00 (2h 20m)

Bush's 22nd Mexican destination

Using Cirium data to examine the US-Mexico market this May-December reveals that Houston Bush has flights to 22 Mexican airports, as shown on the map below. Only Dallas Fort Worth has more (24), although Los Angeles International is not far behind (16).

Not all the 22 are served all the time. For example, a Saturday-only United Express Embraer E175 service to Manzanillo returns on November 4th, just into the northern aviation winter season. United Express returns to Mazatlan on December 16th (twice-weekly, also by the E175).
